When homeowners Nicole and Andrew Wachter became concerned about radon in the basement of their Middleton, Idaho home, their biggest priority was protecting their family. Their children sleep in the basement, and because the family plans to remain in the home for many years, addressing the potential long-term exposure to radon was especially important. The basement had limited ventilation and fresh-air exchange, requiring an active radon mitigation solution. After evaluating the home, Idaho Radon designed a sub-slab depressurization system to draw radon-containing soil gases from beneath the basement slab before they could enter the living space.
The system was designed with a suction point located inside an unfinished storage room on the south end of the basement. This location allowed us to effectively access the area beneath the slab while keeping the interior portion of the system in an unobtrusive location. From there, the system was routed to an exterior-mounted RadonAway RP265 radon fan, which provides continuous suction beneath the slab and safely moves the collected soil gases outside the home.
For this family, mitigating radon wasn't simply another home improvement project—it was an investment in the environment where their children sleep and where they plan to live for years to come. Providing a properly designed system while making the installation as practical and unobtrusive as possible was an important part of the project.
