How We Handle Radon Mitigation in New Meadows

Our Approach to Radon Testing

With quick and convenient scheduling, Idaho Radon promises to set a radon test fast and on your time. There, we install a continuous radon detector to collect data and plan a follow-up visit. At the next appointment, we print the radon test results and review them with you.

Our Approach to Radon Abatement

If radon levels are over 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter), the Environmental Protection  Agency recommends radon mitigation services. If this is the case for your home, we custom design a radon reduction system for your situation:

  1. We depressurize the soil beneath the structure to prevent radon gas from moving through the house, addressing the stack effect or natural movement of air/radon.
  2. We drill into the concrete foundation slab, basement floor, or surrounding earth to create a suction point(s) and connect a PVC pipe.
  3. Radon is vented through a pipe running through a fan in the attic or along the top of the home, expelling the gas outside.
  4. We use a urethane caulking compound to seal all radon entry points, including cracks, gaps, and openings.
  5. Our specialist conducts a final system analysis, examining the fan and other key system details to make sure it performs correctly.
  6. A radon test is performed within 30 days of the system installation to ensure the system is working.

Job Stories From New Meadows, ID
Basement Mitigation

The client borrowed a radon detector from Idaho Radon to evaluate radon levels in his home. We were introduced to the client while performing radon mitigation services for a neighboring property. After a two-week monitoring period, the detector recorded an average radon concentration of 12.9 pCi/L.

Idaho Radon assessed the home’s layout and identified several options for the placement of the suction point and mitigation fan, with careful consideration given to minimizing visual impact. The final design placed the suction point inside the guest bedroom closet, allowing the fan to be installed on the exterior side of the home where it is less visible from the front elevation.

The sub-slab depressurization system was installed by a two-person crew in approximately five hours from start to completion. Electrical power for the fan was supplied from an interior outlet in the dining room, with the fan switch mounted on the exterior of the home on the opposite side of the outlet. The vent piping was routed to the eave and exhausted horizontally from the side of the house.
